4。5 starsThank you so much Simon and Schuster for providing me with an advanced reader copy to read and review！ All thoughts and opinions are my own。 Forever grateful for Simon Teen <3THIS WAS AMAZING。 Chloe Gong is such an amazing writer。 Last Violent call is the perfect story（ies） to read while waiting for Foul Heart Huntsman （Foul Lady Fortune #2）。 If you haven't read Foul Lady Fortune， or the These Violent Delights duology for that matter， this is your sign。 Last Violent Call consists of two 4。5 starsThank you so much Simon and Schuster for providing me with an advanced reader copy to read and review！ All thoughts and opinions are my own。 Forever grateful for Simon Teen <3THIS WAS AMAZING。 Chloe Gong is such an amazing writer。 Last Violent call is the perfect story（ies） to read while waiting for Foul Heart Huntsman （Foul Lady Fortune #2）。 If you haven't read Foul Lady Fortune， or the These Violent Delights duology for that matter， this is your sign。 Last Violent Call consists of two short stories， A Foul Thing and This Foul Murder。 A Foul Thing explores Roma and Juliette's life off the grid after the events of Foul Lady Fortune， and it was such a great read。 I loved how Chloe talked about Juliette's trauma and her healing process， adding quotes like "They emerged back into the world， deciding that they had done what they could for their city and it was time to choose themselves， at long last。" （This made me tear up） and was able to write her in this setting without taking away from the characters roots。 She's still violent and stubborn， the perfect pair to Roma :，）It was so nice to be reading about RomaJuliette again， truly one of my favourite fictional ships。 Chloe was able to write a story in 100 pages that was cozy and sweet while also being action packed and exciting， I was never left bored。 I also was amazed at how Chloe was able to introduce whole new characters without making the story cramped or confusing， no threads were left bare。 Mila is a new favourite character of mine， I love her and can't wait for you all to meet her！ This story was perfect and ended so well， I am in such anticipation for Foul Heart Huntsman。 This Foul Murder follows Benedict and Marshal when they're sent on a train by Roma （for a task you will understand when reading） and when their trip is threatened to be interrupted by a murder on the train， they take on the task of finding the culprit。 This was soooo fun I love murder mysteries。 I loved how in such a short amount of time Chloe can pack in so much， I did not expect the amount of twists in these stories and plot points that caught me off guard。 Also loved reading how Ben and Mars' are also still healing from everything they've lived through， and how that can be seen through small acts。 My only critic is that it took a bit to get things going in this story， there was not a lot happening at first， but caught up later on。 I am on EDGE for Foul Heart Huntsman， I highly recommend adding The Secret Shanghai books to your tbr！ 。。。more

4。5⭐️Another absolutely entrancing book from Chloe Gong。 Both novellas， A Foul Thing and This Foul Murder， follow the best book couples from the These Violent Delights Duology， in my opinion。 I loved every second of reading about my loves， Roma/Juliette and Benedikt/Marshall。 The mysteries and murders in these novellas create a wonderful bridge between the These Violent Delights Duology and Foul Lady Fortune series。 And while these novellas are plot focused， they still capture each second of rom 4。5⭐️Another absolutely entrancing book from Chloe Gong。 Both novellas， A Foul Thing and This Foul Murder， follow the best book couples from the These Violent Delights Duology， in my opinion。 I loved every second of reading about my loves， Roma/Juliette and Benedikt/Marshall。 The mysteries and murders in these novellas create a wonderful bridge between the These Violent Delights Duology and Foul Lady Fortune series。 And while these novellas are plot focused， they still capture each second of romance and banter between my favorite couples。 On top of the great writing and excellent banter， these novellas were wonderfully paced。 Although fast， both novellas captured the characters and quick plot well。 Not to mention， they really did a great job in connecting the two series further。 I absolutely cannot wait for the next book in the Foul Lady Fortune series after this， and I desperately hope for more of Roma/Juliette and Benedikt/Marshall。 If you’re reading anything from this Chloe Gong universe， I highly recommend not skipping these novellas。 And finally， thank you to Simon Teen for sending me an advanced copy to review。 I appreciate it greatly。 :） 。。。more

These Violent Delights and Our Violent Ends are two of my favourite books。 I was expecting to never see Juliette， Roma， Benny and Mars again after the end of Our Violent Ends。 However， these two novellas feel as if they were written specifically for me！ I love every second of this book and was surprised at just how soft and cozy the stories were， despite the backdrop of death， experiments and dark dealings。 Last Violent Call is a phenomenal read and I could not stop reading it once I had picked These Violent Delights and Our Violent Ends are two of my favourite books。 I was expecting to never see Juliette， Roma， Benny and Mars again after the end of Our Violent Ends。 However， these two novellas feel as if they were written specifically for me！ I love every second of this book and was surprised at just how soft and cozy the stories were， despite the backdrop of death， experiments and dark dealings。 Last Violent Call is a phenomenal read and I could not stop reading it once I had picked it up。 A Foul Thing follows our favourite enemies to lovers to enemies to lovers （etc。） Juliette and Roma as they come face to face with younger versions of themselves who are trying to protect each other from her past。 You can tell during these novellas that Chloe Gong seems ready to move on to her adult novels with jokes and hints to conversations/ideas that would be brought up in an adult book， but are too mature for a YA book。 The one that sticks to mind is Juliette offering to be a 'real pain' in Roma's backside， mentioning that some men find it enjoyable。 I did laugh for a good couple of minutes over this five or so line interaction。 This Foul Murder was my favourite of the two novellas， following my favourite duo Benedikt and Marshall as they solve a murder of the train they are travelling on。 This is very Agatha Christy with a twist， and was unbelievably funny。 Marshall was my favourite side character in the original duology so to have him and Ben for an uninterrupted chunk of story was wonderful。This book runs parallel with Foul Lady Fortune but needs to be read after as A Foul Thing finishes after Foul Lady Fortune and This Foul Murder picks up directly after A Foul Thing。 I cannot recommend this book highly enough for fans of Chloe Gong。 They area joy to read and I laughed more during this book than I was expecting to， especially after how heartbreaking all her other books are！ 。。。more

4。25， chloe gong did it again and she did it better than ever！these two novellas were something i didn't expect to see a few years and/or months ago yet she once again delivered with the best couples of shanghai。following roma and juliette in a foul thing on their well-deserved married life added 10 years to my lifespan， i love how we focused on the plot （which makes me so freaking excited for foul heart huntsman） while finally reading the domestic love they didn't achieve in the original duolog 4。25， chloe gong did it again and she did it better than ever！these two novellas were something i didn't expect to see a few years and/or months ago yet she once again delivered with the best couples of shanghai。following roma and juliette in a foul thing on their well-deserved married life added 10 years to my lifespan， i love how we focused on the plot （which makes me so freaking excited for foul heart huntsman） while finally reading the domestic love they didn't achieve in the original duology。 i think trying to fit all these criteria in less than 150 pages made the pacing to be a bit rushed to understand all the implications that we will have in fhh but it remains a really good novella and does the job of healing my heart for the damage chloe put me through in 2021to no one's surprise， ben and mars remain my favorite couple and this foul murder isn't an exception to that。 i absolutely loved the idea of the murder mystery and i am begging for her to write a full novel with a plot like that one day because she does it really well。 i loved the banter moments which were less of a main point considering we already had a sight of what domestic moments could be between them。 i also love how it introduces a potential big plot point for fhh and i am just asking for more constantly！！！！！the stories are clearing some aspects that i didn't get to really enjoy or understand in foul lady fortune and i can't wait to be in september to pick the final instalment in the series！！ 。。。more

This was everything I ever wanted from this novella with my favourite characters。 It was such a joyful read with some romance and lots of investigating that ties so very well into foul lady fortune and is a fantastic set up for FLF2。 I am so damn excited for the last instalment in this universe and I cannot wait to see how Chloe wraps up the series！ :）
